Shotcut v24.10.29 is integrated with Whisper AI Speech to Text. This means that you can now generate subtitles for your project easily for free. With Whisper AI, it can also do translation.
Take note though the the translation is one way as in original language to English. It doesn’t do English to a different language.
Using it is simple. In the Subtitle tab, click on Detect language. Select the language and choose whether you want to include non verbal words like ‘aahs’ and ‘um’. Click on Ok and wait for the subtitles to be generated.
You have the option to use a different GGML file according to Shotcut’s website if you prefer a larger GGML model. To do so, click on the configuration button on the menu below. However, in my limited testing, I’ve found the basic model to be good enough. As they say, your mileage may vary though.
After that, you can decide whether you want to add the subtitles to the video either by burning them onto the video or export it as a .SRT subtitle file.
If you want your text to look a particular, you have the option to adjust the text style like color, font, position of the subtitle. To do so, you have to click on Generate Text on Timeline first. Then make adjustment to the text.
If you prefer a video tutorial, the video below will show you how to use it and what to look out for.
Hope you found it useful.
