Animated text highlight is a great to get attention from your viewers. If you do it in 3D, it takes this effect to a whole new level.

I’ll show you how to do this using Filmora 14. It can be done in other video editors as well.

First Step

Get a screenshot of an article you want to use. It can be a newspaper article or from your own slides or anything with text.

Place this article on the lower track in Filmora

Next, in the media tab, go to solid color and choose a color you want to highlight your text. Yellow or orange works great because that is the common real light text highlighter color.

Adjust the size of solid color over the text.

Use Masking To Create The Illusion Of Motion

Once you have positioned the solid color over the text, go to the Mask tab and select the single line mask.

You will need to keyframe the mask so that it moves from left to right. Time the mask to begin slightly after the article is shown on the screen.

Once you are happy with the mask, the next step to create a 3D effect.

Make It 3 Dimension

There are 2 ways to create a 3D effect. The first method is to use the 3D effect either 3D Motion Left or 3D Motion Right. An alternative way is to use the corner pin effect which I’ll go over as well.

But to make the solid color and the image work together, select both of them and make a compound clip.

Next get the 3D effect left and drag it over the compound clip.

You can see the effect immediately however it is better to adjust some of the parameters in the 3D effect to make it more realistic. I find that slowing down the effect works well.

Using Corner Pin

For the corner pin method, it allows greater control of how your clip will move in 3 dimension. However, it take a bit more time to make the effect realistic.

Drag the corner pin effect over the clip as before. Then you will need to use keyframes as well as adjust the position of each corner.

You have to take a bit more care when you are adjusting the position of the corner pins. Otherwise you can mess up the effect.
